Not to be confused with the game Kick The Buddy

Kick The Buddy (2011) was the 1st game. It was released on January 17th, 2011 by AppZap.

About Kick The Buddy 2011[]

The 2011 Version of Kick the Buddy was the first game.

The game had few items with which you could kill and maim Buddy with compared to the later entries in the series. If you killed him you would be rewarded with Bucks, the main currency used to purchase weapons and cosmetics. Gold was not present in this entry and was only added later on in future games in an effort to implement microtransactions. As previously mentioned, there were not as many weapons compared to what we have today.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first Kick The Buddy game in the franchise.
  • This game was originally going to be rated AO (Adults Only) by the ESRB. This was changed to T rating later on account of Buddy saying mild profanity in certain voicelines, which isn’t enough to make a game be considered AO, at least by the ESRB’s standards.
  • It is believed that before the voice actor for Buddy was even hired, either voicelines from royalty free stock-sound websites or the voice of one of the developers were used for his voice.
  • If the screen isn’t touched for over 4 minutes, Buddy will fall asleep until the player interacts with the game again. This also happens in the later Kick the Buddy entries, with a few exceptions.
  • This game has (allegedly) been banned in a variety of countries such Australia, Germany, Malaysia and more due to it containing mild profanity and violence. ("It could be but i don't know." - Antony David)
  • In the official title screen (shown above) Buddy doesn’t have ropes attaching his arms to his body, which would become a staple of his character design in later entries.
  • In April of 2012, the game was removed and it was recreated as “Kick the Buddy: Second Kick”. This led to a lot of confusion, as the game was a remake rather than a sequel.
  • It is in only this game that some of Buddy’s voicelines contain mild profanity.
